A Christ Resolution
And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.”
As the clock ticks down to the New Year, most of us will be making New Year’s resolutions. A lot of these resolutions will be related to things like weight loss, reading more, or bettering ourselves in some way or another. Though all of these are great resolutions, I want to challenge you to take on a different resolution, a resolution to live for Christ. Each day brings us closer to the imminent return of Jesus Christ. Though we don’t know the day or hour what we do know is that there is a clock ticking closer to that time. It’s time for us to wake up! We need to stop living for ourselves and start living for the kingdom of God.
Let’s set a goal to live each day with the knowledge that every moment that passes brings us closer to Jesus’ return. What does this look like? If we continue to read Romans 13 verses 13 and 14 tell us, “Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in carousing and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the flesh.” We spend so much time working on our outward appearance, doing what we want and living for the desires of our flesh that we forget to clothe ourselves with Christ.
Let’s focus on being prepared this New Year, I don’t know about you, but when the Lord returns I want to be ready. 2 Peter 3:10 and 11 tells us, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives.” Let’s make Christ our New Year’s resolution looking forward to His return and living in a way that is pleasing to Him!
