Devotion of the Week: Give Thanks
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.”
1 Chronicles 16:34
This is one of my favorite verses because it’s so simple, yet it can be so impactful when it comes to our prayers. Giving thanks to God should be a huge portion of our prayer life. Often times we get so wrapped up in our petitions and transgressions that we forget to give thanks to our God Almighty. There may be times where we feel like there’s nothing to be thankful for, but God blesses us in so many ways each day. Sometimes they’re more obvious blessings like an answer to prayer, a new baby, or a promotion at work. And sometimes they’re ones we don’t often notice like our daily meals, safe travels or even a smile that brightened up the day.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” Under all circumstance we should be thankful, not just the times when everything in our lives is going our way, but in the times of hardship and trials too. No matter what, we can always give thanks for God’s love for us. Our verse says that His love endures forever, it’s a love that never fails. My challenge for you this week is to start each prayer out by thanking God for your home, your family, His love and for anything else that He puts on your heart. Let’s show Him our love by thanking Him for His.
